Synopsis
The next few days should now begin to firm up Christmas Day. This year it is very much down to the wire and for many, the breakdown of the Cold could actually arrive around Christmas Eve and into Christmas day. Should this occur many are likely to see a spell of snow first thanks to the sustained cold spell of recently. It should gradually turn to rain. Where precipitation falls is uncertain but for the North a white christmas is now becoming increasingly likely. If you just want a flake to fall then its all very likely. If you want a covering aswell it could be possible for a time. The far south may only see rain but Central and Northern areas are likely to see snow for a time before milder air moves in. For the majority, a cold or very cold Christmas day is possible with temperatures struggling to get above freezing. The far south may see upto about 7c where milder air may already be in place.
